posted on April 1 - but it's no joke :) Anyway, I know the survival need isn't specified in the Core Human Need section (as far as I have read now) but.... I don't understand why love need is # 3... as for human infants, there is no survival without the love/connection. It is primary. You can give an infant shelter and feed it, but it will die without connection/affection/love. The way I see it, Maslow got it wrong even on the basic level, not recognizing the need for connection as primary from the start. Connection/love...IS needed from the beginning...it does not just come online as a later need. ...okay, I see it is addressed later on......later: for separate self itself is a failure of Eros. ..Me: .NOOO...it is not, it is and was an absolute necessity, albeit seemingly temporary, for the fulfillment of a deeper yearning.
I agree that Maslow got a lot wrong and I believe he amended the hierarchy before his death. I also agree that Love is the foundational need of life. That is eros. Desire for nurturing lovingkindness, loving touch that is not only sexual - but as basic as the air we breathe.
